Learning Targets Learning Targets (LTs) are addressed throughout the course on various assignments such as assessments. The grades associated with the learning targets reflect the student’s level of understanding of the required mathematical content. These levels of understanding will change throughout the semester as the student demonstrates his/her level of understanding and journey toward mastery. Students will have the opportunity to reassess throughout the semester. Note that completing a reassessment does not guarantee that the student’s score will improve.
Mathematical Practices and 21st Century Skills Students will be given feedback throughout the course about their growth in the mathematical practices and 21st Century Skills. The 8 Mathematical Practices are as follows:
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
Reason abstractly and quantitatively
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
Model with mathematics
Use appropriate tools strategically
Attend to precision
Look for and make use of structure
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Twenty-first century skills include collaboration, communication, reasoning, problem solving, creativity, flexibility, and more.
Assessments and Reassessments Students will be given two assessments on each learning target throughout the course. I will assess their level of understanding on these learning targets using the scoring rubric shown below. If students still need to progress toward mastery on any learning target, then they may schedule a reassessment using the Reassessment Signup Google Form provided for them in Google Classroom. In order to be allowed to take their reassessments, students must show me evidence that demonstrates growth on the corresponding learning target. If students do not bring evidence or if their evidence has many errors that need addressing, then students will not be allowed to take the reassessment on that day. By the end of the course, students should have achieved a level 3 or higher on every learning target. Note that each time a student assesses or reassesses on a learning target, their score for that learning target will be replaced with their most recent score.
